Contact corrosion doesn’t stand a chance

Reducing weight is one of the most important topics in automotive engineering. However, to satisfy all requirements in terms of crash safety, lightweight components must be combined with steel parts. But this leads to a higher risk of corrosion at contact points. To counteract this, the CEST K1 research centre has systemically analysed effective corrosion coatings.

Protection of metallic components against corrosion and more

Long-term corrosion protection is of crucial importance in many sectors, such as the aircraft and automotive industry. The galvanisation method that is often used, followed by treatment with chromic acid salts, has proven efficient but harmful to health. Together with its partners, the CEST research centre has developed a process which offers lasting protection with no serious side effects.
