The actual classification of remuneration takes place according to the respective qualification and experience. The annual income is € 9.000,-- gross for 38,5 week hours.

Competence Center for Electrochemical Surface Technology GmbH (CEST), Austria is offering a position starting from 01.07.2017 (or later) as a:

 scientist / project assistant

 for research (30 h / week, 3 years)


The position is part of the Life Science 2015 Project “Antimicrobial Refractive Metal Oxides” (ARMO). The eligible applicants must be EU citizens or have a working permit in Austria.


We are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated applicants holding a diploma or master degree in biological chemistry or a related science field for joining our group as a PhD student. The applicant should have solid knowledge in both, practical and theoretical aspects of biological chemistry and/or biology, with the focus on surface related properties and antimicrobial testing expertise. Practical knowledge of physical and chemical materials characterization methods such as XRD, XRF, SEM, EDX, SKP, etc. would be an advantage.


The work is focused on development of new materials (powders, thin films, combinatorial libraries, composites) with antimicrobial properties, as well as their detailed characterization in order to gain a deep understanding of the mechanistic responsible for the antimicrobial feature. The work will be carried on as collaboration between three different institutions: CEST, Austrian Institute of Technology and AMiSTec GmbH. The doctoral degree is awarded by Johannes Kepler University Linz, Linz, Austria.


Candidates must be fluent in both, written and spoken English. Non German speaking applicants will be given the opportunity to develop their German language skills, if interested.


By the end of the period, the candidate is expected to obtain her/his doctoral degree.
