Kickoff for the energy storage of the future

Electrical energy storage (EES) is a key technology to drive renewable power generation, as it can balance fluctuating wind and solar energy to provide a stable power supply. Redox flow batteries (RFB) and lithium ion batteries (LIB) are the most advanced EES systems. Therefore, we are delighted to announce the start of our recently approved EU project “StoreAGE”.

Under the leadership of our colleague Dr. Christian Pichler, CEST and its project partners will establish a PhD network over the next 4 years focusing on strategies to improve battery systems and novel solutions for recycling key resources for battery manufacturing. With a total budget of nearly €3 million and renowned partners, we look forward to developing solutions for improved battery efficiency and recycling of energy storage systems.
