CEST visits Drexel University

A wonderful day in Philadelphia on the 4th of November at the Nanomaterial group of Drexel University with Prof. Yuri Gogotsi, one of the discoverer of MXenes and leading figure in this research field, and Dr. Alex Gogotsi, founder of Carbon Ukraine, which is the principal provider of MAX phases and MXenes worldwide. Our senior researcher Dr. Pierluigi Bilotto had the possibility to visit the labs in Gogotsi’s group and discuss the next research directions on MXenes. We are exciting to start future collaboration between CEST, Carbon Ukraine and Drexel University.

Adhesion 2022

The 15th International Adhesion Conference took place in Glasgow from 28 to 30 September 2022 and provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge with outstanding researchers in the fields of adhesion and adhesives.

Role models like Ambrose Taylor, James Broughton, Andy Crocombe, Bob Adams, Simon Hogg and Steve Millington were present. For our PhD student Tanja Singewald it was an honour to share her results with them and receive feedback on her research.

CEST was at the “Forschungsfest Niederösterreich”

On September 30, 2022, the state of Lower Austria organized the “Forschungsfest Niederösterreich” (research fest of lower austria). Current scientific projects were presented in the Palais Niederösterreich in Vienna.

We were there when children, young people and adults were discovering interesting things from research with experiments and direct contact with scientists.

Graphene Week - Präsentation

17th edition of Europe’s leading conference in Graphene and 2D Materials

The 2022 edition of Graphene Flagship’s Graphene Week took place at the heart of European innovation from September 5-9, 2022 – the world-famous BMW Welt in Munich, Germany. The multidisciplinary event gathered the latest research on graphene and related materials, as well as the newest graphene-enabled products.

We were live below the 497 participants, 101 speakers and 12 exhibitors to share and gain our insights on many interesting topics.

Technology in red, white and red

on August 26, 2022, the Kurier dedicated an extra supplement to the topic of “Technology in Austria”. More specifically: How to create a better future with innovations. We are proud to be represented among such fine research projects with the article “Alle fossilen Rohstoffe ersetzen?” (Replace all fossil ressources?).

COAST 2022 – 1st Conference of Applied Surface Technology

Thanks to more than 100 participants on 16. and 17.05.2022 at our COAST 2022 in Wr. Neustadt – it was a complete success. The bandwidth of the 22 top-class presentations by international experts from more than 10 countries ranged from surface analysis, materials and batteries to catalysis/CO2 recycling and sensing.

Beside the technical presentations, nearly 40 short talks and posters of all currently running MSc and PhD theses at CEST provided a varied program. For many students, the conference was their first major technical conference and thus the ideal setting for a scientific exchange.

Figure 1: (top) Impressions of the first conference day & plenary talk by Prof. Hidde Brongersma. (bottom) Short presentation of a PhD thesis (Mag. Feldner), as well as a virtual lecture on the second conference day.

In addition to the professional exchange, a joint networking dinner (powered by Ecoplus) enabled networking of all participants from university and industry. We look forward to seeing you again soon at COAST 2023 and would like to thank the following supporters of this year’s conference:

(1) Province of Lower Austria

(2) EU for the session “non-destructive testing” within the project 3Tanium (No. 101007830)

(3) ecoplus/Technopol Wiener Neustadt for sponsoring the Networking Dinner
